The mat is slim enough to tuck away upright between uses, and the surface has a soft velvet nap over the mineral core with a backing that grips the worktop. Do not set a hot pan, tray or lid straight onto it. Diatomite is a rigid mineral and will crack if dropped or folded hard, so store it flat or upright.
