wood-and-glass-butter-dish-18cm
Wood and Glass Butter Dish 18cm

Butter kept in its wrapper on a saucer never looks like much. This dish gives it a proper place at the table: a solid wooden base, grooved to hold a standard block, under a clear glass cloche with a small round knob to lift it by. It measures 18 cm long, 12.5 cm deep and 10.5 cm tall, so it reads as a considered piece of tableware rather than as a lid resting on a plate.

The glass is the point of the design, because you can see at a glance how much butter is left and whether it has softened, without lifting anything at all. The base comes in two woods. Acacia is the darker and more strongly figured of the two, with warm red-brown tones that suit a walnut or oak table, while bamboo is paler, straighter grained and cooler, and sits more quietly against a white or painted surface.

Glass and wood both want gentle handling. Lift the cloche by its knob rather than by its rim, check the glass for chips before each use and stop using it if you find any, and keep the dish back from the edge of a table where a child could pull it down. Wipe the wooden base with a damp cloth and dry it at once, never soak it or put it through a dishwasher, and keep both parts away from direct heat.

Solid wooden base with a clear glass cloche

Round glass knob for lifting the lid

18 cm long x 12.5 cm deep x 10.5 cm tall

Two base finishes: acacia or bamboo

Base grooved for a standard block of butter

Wipe-clean wooden base, hand-wash glass

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0990/4737/5232/files/wood-and-glass-butter-holder-butterelegance-acacia-state_of_style-2.jpg?v=1790835847
