Abstract Deer Sculpture Pair

Two deer reduced to their essential lines, sold as a pair so they can be set at different heights and made to relate to each other. The taller figure stands 30 by 17 by 6.5cm and the smaller 18 by 17 by 5.5cm, which is a useful difference: placed together on a console or a mantelpiece they build a small composition rather than reading as two of the same thing.

Three finishes are offered. Gloss black gives the strongest silhouette against a pale wall; white keeps the forms soft and lets the shapes carry the piece; the two-tone pairing sets one of each together, which is the version that draws the eye in a room already full of neutral colour. The surfaces are smooth and unadorned, so the outline does all the work.

Cast resin is durable and holds a crisp edge, but these are top-heavy shapes and should be placed well back on a shelf where they cannot be knocked forward. Keep them out of reach of small children and pets. Dust with a soft dry cloth; avoid solvent cleaners, which can dull the gloss finish over time. Set slightly apart rather than side by side, the pair holds a mantelpiece far better than a single figure of the same size would.
