Delo Alabaster Dome Pendant Light

The Delo is a shallow dome cut from a single piece of natural alabaster and hung from a slim brass lampholder on a black fabric cord. The dome measures 30cm across and only 8cm deep, so it sits low and wide over a table without blocking the view across it. Unlit it reads as a piece of pale stone rather than a lampshade, and the brass collar is left with a warm satin tone rather than a bright plate.

Alabaster is a natural stone, so the grey and honey veining running through each shade is different on every piece and no two domes match. The real appeal shows when the bulb comes on. Light passes straight through the thin stone, so the dome itself glows and the veining becomes visible from below, while the open underside sends a soft pool of warm light down onto the surface beneath.

That combination of glow and downward pool makes the Delo a flattering light over a kitchen island, a dining table or a run of worktop, where the low profile keeps sightlines clear across the room. The fabric cord can be set to suit ceiling height at the point of fitting. Stone is heavier than glass, so the ceiling fixing needs to be sound, and the shade is best cleaned with a dry soft cloth rather than a damp one.
