Espresso Knock Box 900ml

Anyone pulling shots at home knows the daily annoyance of knocking a spent puck out over a bin and wearing half of it. A knock box fixes that. This one holds 900ml, roughly eighteen shots' worth, in a square ABS body with walls high enough to stop grounds bouncing back out onto the worktop.

The knock bar is the part that gets abused, so it is a SUS304 stainless steel rod wrapped in thick silicone. The silicone protects the rim of a portafilter from being dented over hundreds of knocks and takes most of the noise out of the impact, which is worth something at six in the morning. The bar lifts out entirely so the box can be emptied and rinsed properly.

A moulded silicone pad on the underside keeps the box from skating across the worktop when it is struck. The interior is smooth and waterproof and rinses out in seconds. It suits a home espresso setup, an office machine or a small café bar. Empty it daily rather than letting grounds sit, and rinse and dry it before putting it away. Not suitable for a dishwasher. Spent coffee grounds can go straight onto a compost heap or around acid-loving plants in a garden.
