Haku Balloon Dog Ornament

The balloon dog has become shorthand for playful contemporary sculpture, and this version leans into that without pretending to be anything it is not. The body is formed in smooth inflated segments with a high-gloss finish, and the snout is picked out in gold — a single metallic note against a flat colour that lifts the whole piece and stops it reading as plastic.

Six colours are offered, and they cover a wide range of rooms. Black is the most restrained and looks best on a dark shelf where only the gold catches the light. Cream is the softest and disappears into a neutral scheme. Light blue and dark blue both work in a study or a child's room without being childish, while pink and green are the two that will carry a plain sideboard on their own.

It measures 23cm long, 9cm wide and 18cm high — big enough to be the single object on a coffee table, small enough for a bookshelf. Each is cast in epoxy resin, then hand-finished and varnished, so tiny variations in the gloss are part of the process rather than defects. Dust with a soft dry cloth and avoid solvents, which will dull the varnish. It is a decorative object and not a toy, so keep it out of reach of small children and place it securely away from table edges.
