Hand Painted 3D Floral Mug

The flower on this mug is not printed. It is modelled in clay and applied to the body before glazing, so it stands proud of the surface with real petals you can feel under a thumb, then hand painted afterwards. That is a slow way to make a mug and it shows in the result: the tulips have shading through the petals, the rose has depth in its centre, and the whole thing reads as a small ceramic object rather than a piece of tableware with a picture on it.

Five designs run from the softer roses and lily of the valley to the sharper blues. Each mug takes a proper cup of tea or a generous coffee, with a handle sized for a whole hand rather than two fingers, and the glaze inside is plain white so you can see the drink. They are attractive enough that people tend to leave them out on a shelf between uses.

Because each is hand finished, the painting varies slightly from mug to mug - that is the nature of the process rather than a flaw. Wash by hand rather than in a dishwasher, where the raised detail will chip against other items, and avoid the microwave. Handle the sculpted flower carefully when stacking.
