Handwoven Rattan Storage Basket

Rattan baskets do a job that plastic tubs cannot: they hold clutter while still looking like something you chose. Each of these is woven by hand over a willow frame, with a tight, even weave on the sides and a flat, closely worked base that keeps small items from pushing through.

Three sizes are offered — roughly 20 x 14 x 7 cm, 25 x 17 x 8 cm and 30 x 20 x 9 cm. The smallest suits a bathroom shelf, a desk or a bedside table; the middle size takes bread, fruit or a tea caddy and a few cups; the largest works as a general catch-all on a kitchen counter or in a hallway. The rims are bound with a double wrap of rattan so the edges cannot fray, and the whole basket is left in its natural colour with no varnish.

Because these are handwoven from a natural material, colour, weave tightness and dimensions vary slightly between pieces. Keep them out of direct damp; dust with a soft brush and wipe with a barely damp cloth if needed, drying thoroughly afterwards. Line with a cloth if using for unwrapped food. Bought as a set of three, the sizes nest loosely inside one another for storage, which makes them easy to keep and bring out only when they are needed.
