Italian Margarita Glasses, Set of Six

Six proper margarita glasses, made in Italy, with the wide shallow bowl and the sharp shoulder that the shape is supposed to have. Most of what is sold under this name now is a vague coupe with a stem; this is the real profile, which matters because the width is what gives you the salt rim and lets a frozen drink sit properly without collapsing into slush.

Each glass holds 270ml and stands 15cm tall on a base 11cm across. That is a generous but sensible pour - enough for a full cocktail with ice and a garnish, without tipping into the goldfish-bowl territory that some larger versions reach. The glass is clear and unfussy, so it works as easily for a frozen daiquiri or a prawn cocktail as it does for the drink it is named after.

There is a second life for these beyond the bar. The bowl shape is exactly right for ice cream sundaes, layered desserts, trifles and fruit salads, which makes a set of six far more useful than most single-purpose cocktail glassware. All six are dishwasher safe, which is not always true of imported stemware. Store them upright, handle the stems with a little care, and keep out of reach of children.
