A brushed stainless steel post carries a wide disc head with the solar panel set into the top surface, and a clear flared diffuser below spreads a soft pool of light around the base. Push the spike into a border, a lawn edge or a large planter and the light is working the same evening.
The head holds an integrated LED rather than a replaceable bulb, rated at 0.5 W and giving a universal white 4000 K output. Total output is 30 lumens from the LED, with 10 lumens leaving the fitting, which places it firmly in the accent and wayfinding category rather than the floodlight one. A switch on the fitting turns it off when the light is not wanted.
That output is enough to mark the line of a path, a step or a planted bed after dark without flattening a garden the way a mains floodlight does. Site the head where it gets direct daylight through the day, since shade under a hedge or a tree canopy will cut the charge and shorten the run time at night. Wipe the panel clear of dust and leaf fall to keep charging steady, and lift the spike out before mowing close to a lawn edge.
