Lagoon Creature Garden Statue

Half hidden in a fern bed, this one earns its keep. The creature rises out of the ground on webbed hands, scaled shoulders and ridged spine caught mid-heave, and the deep green finish sits so naturally against foliage that most people take a second look before they realise what they are seeing. It has the proportions of a classic monster-movie prop rather than a cartoon, which is exactly why it works as a garden ornament instead of a gimmick.

Cast in solid resin at 26 by 20 by 8 centimetres, the detail holds right down to the individual scales and the set of the jaw. It is sized to tuck between plants, sit on the lip of a pond or guard a doorstep, and it looks best when only part of it is visible. Position it low and let the planting do half the work.
