Mango Wood Serving and Chopping Board

The best boards do double duty: chop on them in the kitchen, then carry them straight to the table with cheese, charcuterie or warm bread on top. This one is cut from solid mango wood with an irregular round edge rather than a machined circle, so no two boards are identical and each keeps a little of the shape of the plank it came from.

The dark brown of mango wood is deeper than beech or maple and shows the grain clearly, which is what makes it a good serving surface — food looks better on it. It measures roughly 40 x 30cm with a 2cm thickness and weighs 760g, substantial enough to stay put while you work but light enough to lift one-handed onto a table.

A rope loop at the top means it can hang on a kitchen hook or a rail rather than living in a cupboard, which is the practical solution for a board this good-looking. Mango is a dense hardwood that takes a knife edge well without blunting it. Wash by hand in warm water and dry immediately — never put a wooden board in a dishwasher or leave it soaking, as both will split the timber. Re-oil occasionally with a food-safe mineral oil to keep the surface sealed.
