Oversized Wine Glasses, Set of Six

Six large-bowled glasses, 800ml each and 25cm tall. The capacity is not an invitation to fill them; a wide bowl with a normal measure poured into it is how a red wine gets enough surface area to open up, which is why restaurant glassware looks oversized to anyone used to a standard supermarket set.

The proportions are properly considered. The bowl tapers towards the rim so the aromatics gather rather than escaping, the stem is long enough to hold without warming the wine through the bowl, and the base is wide enough that a full glass is not permanently on the verge of going over. The whole set weighs 879 grams, which tells you the glass is thin - light in the hand, as good stemware should be.

Clear and undecorated, they suit any table and any tablecloth, and they work as well for a large gin and tonic with plenty of ice and botanicals as they do for wine. Hand washing is recommended for thin stemware; dishwasher racks are where most tall glasses meet their end. Store them upright, never inverted on the rim, and keep out of reach of children.
