Ribbon and Egg Spring Wreath

A wreath is not only a Christmas object, and this one makes the case for spring: a 45 cm ring wound with looped ribbon bows and set with painted and patterned eggs, in five colourways ranging from soft pastels to a brighter mix of coral, teal and gold.

Each wreath is assembled by hand on a sturdy wire and rattan base, so it holds its round shape rather than sagging where the heaviest cluster sits. The ribbon is polyester grosgrain and satin, wired at the edge to keep the loops standing, and the eggs are lightweight moulded resin rather than real shell — they survive being knocked, packed away and brought out again next year. A loop at the top takes a hook or a length of ribbon.

It works on a front door, on a hallway wall, or laid flat on a table as a centrepiece with a candle or a jug of branches in the middle. Store it flat in a box between seasons. Suitable for a sheltered porch but not for full exposure — sustained rain will mark the ribbon. Keep small decorative eggs away from young children. Because the eggs are decorative rather than seasonal in themselves, several of the colourways sit happily on a wall well past Easter and into the summer months.
