Scandi Cordless LED Pendant Lamp

The awkward thing about pendant lights is that they have to hang where the wiring already is. This one does not. A rechargeable battery sits inside the iron and aluminium shade, about 20cm across and 11cm deep, so it can hang from a hook wherever it is actually wanted: over a corner reading chair, above a garden table on a summer evening, down a stairwell, or from a beam in a shed or shepherd's hut.

The shade is a shallow Scandinavian dome with a matt finish, in black or white. Brightness is adjustable, so it works as a soft mood light through an evening or steps up when someone needs to see what they are doing. Charge it from a USB supply and hang it back up; there is no cable trailing down the wall and no electrician needed to move it.

It is a practical answer for rented flats, listed buildings, and any room where the ceiling rose is in the wrong place. Use a hook rated for the weight of the fitting, and check for pipes and cables before drilling into a ceiling or beam. Use a UK-approved USB mains adapter, which is not supplied. The battery is built in and not user-replaceable, so recycle the lamp responsibly at the end of its life.
