Strawberry Ceramic Vase

A ceramic strawberry, 17cm wide and 19cm tall, modelled with a slightly lopsided cheerfulness rather than botanical accuracy. That is the charm of it. The seeds are pressed into the surface, the leaves fold over the opening at the top, and the whole thing has the appealing wonkiness of something made by hand rather than pressed out by the thousand.

The opening is wide enough for a proper bunch, so it works with tulips, ranunculus and cut garden flowers as well as dried stems, and it looks perfectly happy standing empty on a kitchen shelf or a windowsill. It is a good size for a dining table centrepiece, where it is tall enough to be seen but not so tall that people have to talk around it.

Four colours are offered: a classic red, a soft pink, a green for anyone who wants the shape without the obvious reference, and a black that turns it into something more graphic. Ceramic is porous at the foot, so stand it on a mat or a coaster if it will hold water on a wooden surface. Hand wash only, and take care as ceramic chips if knocked. Change the water every couple of days and cut the stems again to keep a bunch looking fresh for longer.
