Three Piece Stainless Steel Pan Set

Three pans that between them cover most of what a kitchen actually does: a 1.5 litre pot with a lid for eggs, sauces and small quantities of vegetables, a 3 litre saucepan with a lid for pasta, soup, stock and rice, and a 24cm frying pan for everything that needs a wide surface and a bit of heat behind it.

All three are stainless steel with a multi-layered base, which is the part that matters on a hob. A single thin layer of steel develops hot spots directly over a gas flame or an induction coil and burns whatever is sitting there; a bonded base spreads the heat across the whole floor of the pan so a sauce reduces evenly and a pancake browns from edge to edge.

Stainless steel does not flake, does not care about metal utensils, and can go into a hot oven without a second thought, which makes it a sensible long-term choice over a coated pan. The set works on gas, electric, ceramic and induction hobs. Handles and lids become hot in use, so keep a cloth to hand and turn handles in from the edge of the hob when children are about. Lids are supplied with the two pots; the frying pan is sold without one.
