Acrylic and Wood Silent Wall Clock

A clock that sets a clear acrylic face against wooden markers, so the hands appear to move over the wall colour behind rather than over a printed dial. Two layouts are offered: design A spaces twelve wooden indices evenly around the circle, while design B uses four longer markers at the quarters for a sparser look. Both suit a plain wall better than a patterned one.

The movement is a silent sweep, which is the sensible choice for any clock hung in a living room or a bedroom. Acrylic keeps the weight down and takes the impact if the clock is knocked while being hung, where glass would not. The wooden elements are finished in a mid tone that reads warm against both white plaster and a darker paint.

Because the face is transparent, the wall behind it becomes part of the design, and the clock will look different on a white wall than on a deep colour. Wipe the acrylic with a soft dry cloth only, as solvent cleaners will haze it permanently. It runs from a single AA battery, not supplied. Check the wall for concealed pipes and cables before drilling, and level it carefully, since a transparent face makes any tilt obvious against the horizontal lines of a room.
