Acrylic Floating Photo Frame

A floating frame holds the photograph between two clear acrylic panels with a coloured border around the outside, so the image appears to hang in mid air rather than sitting on a mount. It is a far more modern way to display a picture than a conventional frame, and because acrylic is light it can stand on a narrow shelf or a desk without needing a heavy easel back behind it.

Four sizes are available. The smallest measures fourteen by eleven centimetres with a print area of about eight by five, the largest twenty-one by sixteen with a print area of fifteen by ten. Two intermediate sizes cover the sixteen by sixteen and nineteen by sixteen formats, one square and one landscape, so most standard photograph proportions can be accommodated without cropping.

Seven border colours are offered, from restrained black and grey and brown through to orange, yellow, blue and pale pink. A run of three or four frames in different colours along a shelf works better than a single one on its own. Clean the acrylic with a dry microfibre cloth only: household sprays and solvents will craze the surface and leave permanent cloudy marks that cannot be polished out again.
