Acrylic Floating Wall Shelf

A single-tier shelf cut from acrylic with the bracket hidden behind it, so whatever is standing on it appears to float against the wall. In clear acrylic the effect is almost complete: the shelf disappears and a row of books or a plant seems to hang unsupported. In the coloured versions the shelf becomes the feature, throwing a band of tinted light onto the wall behind.

Three lengths are offered: 30cm for a single frame or a candle, 40cm as the general-purpose size, and 50cm for a row of paperbacks or a line of small plants. Six colours cover clear, black and four brights. Run three of the same length in a stack, or stagger different lengths up a wall for something less formal.

Acrylic suits damp rooms better than timber, so these work in a bathroom or a kitchen as well as a living room, study or child's bedroom. They wipe clean in seconds with a soft damp cloth; avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners, which will haze the surface. Fix into solid wall or into studs using fixings rated for the load, keep to light display items, and check for pipes and cables before drilling. Fitting instructions and fixings for plasterboard are not supplied, so match them to your own wall.
