Adjustable Bamboo Bath Tray

The problem with most bath trays is that they only fit one bath. This one extends: the arms slide out from a 60cm body to span anything up to 87cm, so it works across a standard British bath, a wider roll-top and most fitted tubs. The tray itself is 20cm deep, with compartments and a slotted rest that holds a book or a tablet at a readable angle.

It is made from bamboo, which is the sensible material for a bathroom. It is naturally dense and water-resistant, it does not go grey and furry the way softwood does, and it warms up quickly rather than feeling cold against wet arms. The finish is smooth all over with rounded edges, so nothing catches when the tray is lifted in and out.

There is room for a glass, a candle, a phone and a bar of soap alongside the book rest, which is most of what anyone wants within reach in a bath. Water safety comes first: never leave a child unattended in a bath, and keep electrical devices away from water. Wipe the tray dry after each use and stand it upright to air rather than leaving it lying wet. Re-oil the bamboo occasionally with a food-safe wood oil to keep it from drying out.
