Adjustable Stainless Steel Mandoline Slicer

A hand mandoline with stainless steel blades and a dial that sets slice thickness, so a potato gratin comes out with every layer the same depth and a cucumber can be taken down to something near translucent. Getting that consistency with a knife takes practice; with a mandoline it takes a few passes, which is the entire reason the tool exists.

The frame is moulded with a non-slip foot so it holds against a worktop or sits stably across a bowl. Blades are stainless steel and stay sharp far longer than the carbon alternatives, and the whole unit comes apart for washing. Thickness settings run from a fine shaving suitable for fennel or radish up to a chip-cut for roasting.

A mandoline blade is extremely sharp and does not feel sharp until it is too late. Always use the supplied hand guard, never slice the last portion of anything by hand, and keep the unit out of reach of children entirely — both in use and in the drawer. Wash it by hand with the blade away from you and dry it immediately, rather than leaving it in a bowl of water where a hand can find it unseen. Store it dismantled with the blade guarded if the drawer it lives in is shared.
