Aluminium Up & Down Outdoor Light

Up-and-down wall lights are the most useful outdoor fitting there is, because the twin beams graze the wall and make its texture visible instead of flooding the garden with light. This one is unusually slim at 3.8cm deep, in cast aluminium with a polycarbonate lens, so it sits almost flat against brickwork and does not catch a shoulder on a narrow path.

Three widths let you match the fitting to the wall rather than the other way round. The 10cm at 3W and 300 lumens suits a run of several down a boundary. The 15cm at 5W and 500 lumens is the general-purpose size for a back wall or a patio. The 26cm at 7W and 700 lumens is a single statement piece beside a front door or a garage. The three sizes also share the same backplate footprint, so you can mix widths along one wall without the fixing points looking irregular.

All three are 12cm tall, warm white at 3000K, and rated IP65 for exposed positions. Black disappears against dark brick and slate; gold warms up render and pale stone and picks up any brass door furniture. The LED is integrated rather than replaceable. Being mains powered, it must be wired in by an electrician on a properly protected outdoor circuit.
