Amber Glass and Wood Table Lamp 20cm

A squat table lamp: a textured glass dome sitting directly on a turned wooden base, with no visible stem between them. The glass is moulded with an irregular surface rather than being smooth, so the lamp inside is broken into dozens of small bright points and the light that reaches the table is dappled. Two colours are offered, a warm amber and a cooler smoke grey.

At 20cm across and only 15cm high it is deliberately low, which makes it useful where a conventional table lamp would be in the way: on a windowsill, a low sideboard, a bedside table next to a tall headboard, or on a desk beside a monitor. The wooden base gives it enough weight to stay put, and the combination of grain and glass is warmer than a metal-based lamp of the same size.

The holder is G9, the small capsule base, which is widely available in LED form in the UK and keeps the heat inside a closed glass dome to a sensible level. A push-button switch sits on the base. The lamp accepts 110 to 240V so it runs on UK mains. No lamp is supplied. Clean the glass with a dry cloth and keep water off the wooden base, which is finished rather than sealed.
