Ayro Alabaster Outdoor Wall Light

The Ayro is a slim 40cm bar with an 8cm square section, made from imitation alabaster set on a metal body. The stone-look shade carries a faint veined pattern that only shows once the light is on, so by day it reads as a plain pale column and by night it glows with the softness of lit stone rather than the flat white of a plastic diffuser.

Light leaves the full length of the shade instead of a single point, which gives a long even wash on the wall behind and none of the hard hotspot a downlight leaves. The colour is warm, the LED is built into the fitting, and maximum draw is 6W to 10W, so a pair either side of a door costs very little to run through a long evening. An IP65 rating seals the body against dust and water jets from any direction.

That weather sealing is what lets the Ayro face open weather on a boundary wall, a gate pier, a porch or a garden room rather than sheltering under a canopy. The narrow profile keeps it close to the brickwork, so it stays clear of a doorway or a path. Mount it at a height where the lit face sits below eye level, and wipe the shade down occasionally to keep grit and cobwebs from dulling the glow.
