Bamboo & Fabric Table Lamp

This is a small lamp built the old way: a turned bamboo and solid wood body carrying a fabric shade printed with a single botanical motif. The shade is open at the top as well as the bottom, so light goes up the wall behind it as well as down onto a bedside table, which stops a small lamp from making a dark ring around itself.

Four designs are offered: red, blue and yellow flower motifs, and a lotus. They are printed rather than woven, so the pattern is crisp when the lamp is off and shows as a soft silhouette when it is lit. At roughly 12cm across and 27cm tall it is genuinely small, which suits a narrow bedside table, a hall console or a desk corner. A pair either side of a bed reads well because the motif is small enough not to compete with itself across the room.

It takes a standard E27 screw-fit bulb, so you choose the output; something around 400 lumens in warm white is right for a bedside. A push-button switch sits on the body rather than dangling on the cord. Bamboo does not like damp, so keep it out of bathrooms and conservatories, and dust the shade with a soft brush rather than a damp cloth.
