Bamboo Sofa Armrest Tray 40cm

An armchair rarely has anywhere sensible to put a mug down, which is the small problem this tray solves. It is cut from natural bamboo in a slim rectangle, 40 cm long and 33 cm across but only 4.5 cm deep, and it straddles the arm of a sofa or an armchair so that a drink and a plate sit level and within reach instead of being balanced on a cushion or left down on the floor.

Bamboo is a sensible material for something that lives in a sitting room. It is light enough to lift with one hand, hard enough to take a hot mug standing on a mat, and warm in tone against almost any upholstery, from pale linen through to dark leather. The underside is finished to grip rather than to slide, so the tray stays where you put it when you lean on the arm beside it. It arrives as a single piece with fitting instructions.

The tray is made to hold a drink and a snack, not to be stood or sat on, so do not use it as a step and do not let a child climb on the arm of the chair to reach it. Keep the load modest and centred, and stand hot cups on a mat so the bamboo is not marked. Wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it straight away, and never soak it or put it in a dishwasher.
