Batra Dark Grey Garden Spike Light

The Batra is an adjustable dark grey spotlight that pushes straight into a bed or border and throws a powerful wash of warm light up trees, shrubs and walls. The pivoting head lets you aim the beam exactly where you want it, while a hooded shield above the lens keeps the glare out of your eyes and directs everything at the planting.

It is built from aluminium with a glass lens and rated IP65, so it lives happily in soil through rain and winter. The 15 W LED bulb is included and delivers a generous 1500 lumens at a warm 3000 K, enough to turn a mature tree or a textured brick wall into the after-dark focal point of the garden. The ground spike is included and the control gear is integrated, so it wires to the mains and simply works.

Use one to feature a specimen tree, or set several through a border to give the whole garden depth after sunset. Aim the head away from windows and seating so the light lands on the planting rather than in anyone's eyes, and push the spike into firm, well-drained ground. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician to outdoor wiring rules. Clear fallen leaves off the lens through autumn to keep the beam clean.
