Bell Orchid Sculptural Table Lamp

The lamp is built as a stem of bell-shaped flowers, each head tipping downwards on its own slender stalk so the light falls in several small pools rather than one. It is eighteen centimetres across and thirty-six tall, which puts it at about the height of a decent vase, and it works on a hall table, a mantelpiece or a bedside where its silhouette is visible against the wall.

The heads are moulded in polycarbonate and the stems and base are metal, which is the right way round: the flowers need to pass light and the structure needs to be rigid enough to hold them at an angle. Unlit, the lamp reads as a piece of sculpture, and it holds its own on a surface where an ordinary shade would look like it was waiting to be switched on.

Illumination comes from a G4 bi-pin bulb, which is not supplied and gives a small, warm point source suited to accent lighting rather than a main light. A push-button switch on the body controls it directly, with no inline cord switch to find in the dark. It runs across a wide voltage range and needs a standard socket. This is a decorative fitting, not a task lamp.
