Bird Perch Wall Light

A plain metal dome on a short arm with a small cast bird perched on it, facing out into the room. It is the only decorative element on an otherwise entirely straight fitting, and that restraint is what makes it work - there is no risk of the lamp being outgrown the way a themed nursery light would be, because underneath the bird it is just a good dome sconce.

The dome is between 13 and 23 centimetres across depending on how it is measured, standing 19 to 23 tall, on a 15 centimetre mounting plate and projecting about 21 from the wall. That projection is generous enough to put light onto a changing table or a chair rather than just onto the wall, which is the practical reason to choose this over a flatter fitting in a nursery.

White suits a pale nursery and lets the bird read as a silhouette. Black is the version that will still look right in a teenager's room in ten years. The fitting takes an E26 or E27 bulb, not supplied, and will run LED, incandescent or fluorescent lamps at 220-240 volts. It is a hardwired indoor fitting and should be installed by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated, mounted above the reach of a child in a cot or bed.
