Bohemia Fringed Sofa Throw

A throw is the cheapest way to change the character of a room, and this one changes it decisively. The pattern is a bohemian geometric — bands of diamonds, chevrons and fine stripes in warm neutrals with rust and indigo accents — woven through the cloth rather than printed, so the reverse carries the same design in inverted colours and either face can be shown.

It is a cotton-rich blend, mid-weight: substantial enough to drape properly over the arm of a sofa and stay where it is put, light enough to actually use over your knees rather than keep for show. The weave is tight and slightly slubby, and the ends are finished with a hand-knotted fringe. Colours are yarn-dyed, which is why they hold through washing instead of greying off.

It fits a two or three-seat sofa, a double bed as a foot throw, or a chair. Machine wash cool on a gentle cycle with the fringe kept clear of the drum, line dry, and shake it out rather than ironing — the texture is part of the point. Do not tumble dry. Folded over the back of a chair it reads as a decorative textile; opened out over a bed it covers a double comfortably, which is unusual at this size and weight.
