Bonbon Opal Globe Chandelier

Opal glass is the quiet hero of this fitting. Each 18cm globe is opaque rather than clear, so you never see the bulb through it and the light leaves the surface evenly in every direction. Three or five of them sit on splayed arms around a central stem, which makes it read as a proper chandelier without any of the cut-crystal fussiness that usually comes with the word.

The three-arm version is 46cm across and suits a hallway, a landing or a small dining table. The five-arm is 67cm and is the one for a dining room or a wide stairwell. Both are only 34cm deep. Globes come in soft pink, cream or plain white, on a warm copper or a cooler chrome frame, so it can lean either retro or contemporary depending on the pairing. Because the globes are opaque you can use plain, inexpensive bulbs in it without any of them showing through, which is not true of a clear-glass fitting.

Three connectable drop rods are supplied at 10cm, 20cm and 30cm, so the hanging height can be set at installation to suit the ceiling without cutting anything. It takes E26 or E27 bulbs, not included, which means you choose the brightness and the colour temperature. Indoor use only; wipe the glass with a dry cloth after switching the circuit off.
