Borosilicate Taper Candle Holder

Borosilicate is the same glass used for laboratory ware and good coffee equipment, which means it handles the temperature change of a burning candle far better than ordinary soda glass. Here it has been blown into four sculptural forms in lilac and pink, each with an eight centimetre base, so a group of them along a table or a mantelpiece reads as a considered set rather than a random collection.

Four forms are available. The single-stage lilac is the plainest and the easiest to place. The two multi-tiered versions, one purple and one pink, stack their bowls into a taller shape with more presence. The balloon lilac is the roundest and softest of the four. Because the glass is tinted rather than painted, the colour runs through the whole piece and will not chip or wear off the surface.

Each holder takes a standard taper candle between six and ten inches long and roughly two to two and a half centimetres across. The glass is rated from minus twenty to one hundred and fifty degrees Celsius. Never leave a burning candle unattended, keep it away from curtains and other flammable materials, and let the glass cool completely before moving or washing the holder.
