Bathroom mirrors are usually lit badly, from above and too far back, which puts every shadow in exactly the wrong place. A slim horizontal bar mounted directly over the glass fixes that: the light comes from the same plane as your face, spreads evenly along the full width, and stops the hollows under the eyes and jaw that overhead downlights create. At 41cm it suits a standard basin mirror without overhanging it.

The finish is a warm brass that reads as considered rather than showy, and it sits particularly well against white tile, dark green paint or a wood vanity. This is a hardwired mains fitting for a bathroom, which means installation by a qualified electrician to the correct zone rating is not optional. Isolate the circuit before any work and check the wall for pipes and cables before drilling. Wipe the bar with a soft damp cloth only. Mounted a little above the top edge of the mirror, it lights the face rather than the glass.
