Butterfly LED Wall Light 25cm

The outline of this fitting is drawn from a butterfly, but the execution is restrained enough that it does not read as a novelty piece. A clear acrylic panel is held in a slim golden frame with an aluminium and iron body behind it, measuring twenty-five by nineteen centimetres. Unlit, the shape shows only as a faint line on the wall; lit, the whole panel glows and the outline resolves clearly.

Three light modes cover the range from three thousand to six thousand kelvin, so the same fitting can be warm and soft in a bedroom or crisp and bright over a desk. The mode is switched at the fitting rather than being fixed at purchase, which is genuinely useful in a room that changes use through the day, such as a spare bedroom that doubles as a home office.

The fitting draws ten watts, which is efficient for the amount of light produced, and it is supplied as a plug-in unit rather than being hardwired. That makes it straightforward to fit in a rented flat, though a UK plug adapter may be needed depending on the lead supplied. It is rated for indoor, dry locations only. Clean the acrylic panel with a dry cloth; solvents will craze the surface.
