Cast Iron Hand Wall Hooks, Pair

Two cast iron hands, palms turned upward, each with a hook formed by both arms so a single fitting takes two coats or a coat and a bag. They are properly heavy at around 1.36kg apiece, which is the difference between a hook that holds a wet winter coat and one that bends the first time somebody hangs a rucksack on it.

The black finish is flat rather than glossy, so they read as ironwork rather than as painted plastic, and the modelling of the fingers is crisp enough to look deliberate close up. They are as much small sculptures as they are hardware, and a pair spaced along a wall makes a better job of a hallway than a single multi-hook rail.

Use them in an entrance hall for coats, in a bathroom for towels and a robe, in a bedroom for a dressing gown, or in a utility room for aprons and bags. Fix into solid wall or into studs with fixings rated for the load you intend to hang, and check carefully for pipes and cables before drilling. Wipe with a dry cloth; keep them out of persistent damp to protect the finish. Cast iron is brittle as well as heavy, so avoid dropping the hooks onto a hard floor during fitting.
