Cat Silhouette Silent Wall Clock, 28cm

A cat cut from acrylic, 28cm square overall, with the dial set into the body and the ears and tail carrying the outline beyond the circle. It is simple enough to work in a child’s room without being babyish, which means it will still look right in a few years’ time when the rest of the room has been redecorated around it.

The second hand is silent, so there is no tick carrying across a quiet bedroom at night. Acrylic makes it light and, more usefully, means it will not shatter if it comes off a wall or is caught by a door swinging open. The dial is clearly marked, so it can be read across a room by a child still learning the hours.

A protective film is applied to the acrylic in transit and must be peeled off before hanging, or the surface will look permanently cloudy. Fix it well above reach, above the height of a bed or a chest of drawers, and check the wall for concealed pipes and cables before drilling. Clean with a soft dry cloth only, never a solvent, which will craze the acrylic within minutes and cannot be undone once it has happened.
