A small apple modelled in ceramic and finished with an enamel glaze, lit from within so the glaze glows rather than glares. It reads as an ornament by day and as a soft bedside light after dark, which makes it useful on a nightstand, a kitchen windowsill or a shelf that needs a point of warmth rather than a working lamp. The glaze carries the light unevenly, in the way glazed ceramic always does.
There is no cable and no plug: the lamp is battery powered and cordless, drawing about 5 watts through a warm LED, and it is switched on and off by hand. Two sizes are offered at the same price, a small apple at 9.5 by 9.5 by 8 cm and a large one at 12 by 12 by 9 cm, so it can either tuck in beside a book or hold a shelf on its own.
Ceramic is brittle and will chip or break if knocked onto a hard floor, so stand it well back from the edge of a table or shelf. It is a decorative light and not a toy: keep it out of reach of babies and toddlers, and site it where it cannot be pulled down onto a cot or a bed. Fit the batteries the right way round, keep spare and spent cells well away from children and pets, and take them out before long storage. Never immerse the lamp in water; wipe it with a dry cloth.
