Checkerboard Throw Blanket

A large-scale checkerboard in a lightweight polyester weave. The pattern is the appeal: big flat squares that read clearly from across a room and give a plain sofa or bed something to push against, without the busyness of a print. Three colourways are offered, with black and white the most graphic, blue the softest, and gold the warmest against natural wood and linen.

Five sizes run from 100 by 150cm, which is a single throw for one person on a sofa, up to 200 by 230cm, which will cover a double bed properly with an overhang on both sides. The middle sizes suit an armchair, a day bed, a sofa back or a bed runner laid across the foot of a bed.

The weave is light rather than heavy, so it works through spring and summer as much as winter, and folds down small enough to keep in a basket or the boot of a car for picnics and outdoor concerts. It is machine washable and dries quickly. Wash at a low temperature with similar colours, avoid fabric conditioner, which flattens the surface, and tumble dry on low or line dry. The larger sizes also work well as a spare-room bedspread through the warmer months.
