Cherry Red Glass Candle Holders and Vases

Red glass on a table does something that clear glass cannot: it holds colour in the shadow it casts. This set of six forms is mouth-blown in cherry-red borosilicate, and each one throws a pool of warm colour onto the surface beneath it when a candle is lit or the sun catches it in a window. Used together they build into a still life; used singly they are quietly striking.

The six shapes cover different jobs. The slim two-tier holder and the layered candle holder both take tapers and stack their colour vertically. The tall red holder is the most upright of the group. The chalice vase and the Venice vase take single stems or short cuttings, and the short bubble vase is the squattest, ideal for a handful of garden flowers on a kitchen table.

Borosilicate glass is the same material used for laboratory ware and good cookware, so it tolerates a range from minus twenty to a hundred and fifty degrees and copes with a lit candle without stressing. Sizes run from 16cm to 23cm tall depending on the form. Each piece is individually blown, so slight variation in wall thickness and colour depth is expected. Never leave a burning candle unattended, keep flames away from curtains and soft furnishings, and let the glass cool fully before handling or washing.
