Clear Glass Lampshade, Six Diameters

A plain clear glass dome, sold on its own as a replacement or an upgrade for a fitting you already own. Clear glass is the most forgiving shade there is: it holds the shape of a pendant or sconce without softening the light, which is what you want over a worktop, a stairwell or anywhere the bulb itself is meant to be part of the look.

Six diameters are offered, from 13cm up to 25cm, rising in small enough steps to match most existing fittings closely. Smaller domes suit wall lights, cluster pendants and bedside lamps; the 20cm and 25cm sizes work over a dining table or a kitchen island. The glass is uniformly thin and untinted, so a decorative filament lamp will read clearly through it while a frosted or opal bulb will diffuse gently.

Check the fitter size and the fixing method of your existing light before ordering - shades attach in several different ways and this one will not suit every fitting. Isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before removing or fitting a shade, and let the old lamp cool completely first. Glass is fragile: support the dome with both hands, do not over-tighten the retaining screws, and wash it separately in warm soapy water when it needs cleaning.
