Colour-Changing Globe Lamp

A plain glowing sphere is one of the most useful shapes in lighting, because it works from every angle and never needs positioning. This one is moulded from polyethylene with an ABS base and lights evenly across its whole surface, so it reads as a solid ball of light rather than a lampshade with a bulb behind it. Left on a low warm setting it is a quiet ambient light; turned up it becomes a centrepiece.

Sixteen colours are available through the supplied remote, along with brightness control, so the same lamp can be a warm white reading light on a Tuesday and a deep blue or amber accent when people come round. Two sizes are offered: fifteen centimetres for a side table, a bookshelf or a bedside, and twenty centimetres for a floor position beside a sofa or the centre of a dining or garden table.

It runs cordless on a rechargeable battery, giving up to ten hours of light per charge, which is what makes it practical to carry outside for an evening and bring back in. There is no bulb to replace. Charge with a UK-approved USB adapter, not supplied. Wipe the sphere with a soft damp cloth. It is not rated for permanent outdoor installation, so bring it in overnight.
