Colour Pop Acrylic Serving Tray

A square of clear acrylic, 25cm each way and 3.3cm deep, with a band of strong colour running through it so the tray glows where the light passes through the edges. The corners are rounded and the walls are low, which keeps it easy to pick up two-handed and easy to slide onto a crowded coffee table.

Trays like this earn their keep by making a surface look deliberate. A pair of glasses and a jug become a drinks tray; keys, sunglasses and a wallet by the door become a landing spot rather than a mess; three candles on a sideboard become an arrangement. It also works on a dressing table for scent bottles and jewellery, or on a desk to corral pens and a phone.

Four colours are offered: green, orange, red and blue, all in the same clear-and-colour treatment. Acrylic is far lighter than glass and will not shatter if it is knocked off a table, which makes it the sensible choice around children. Wipe it with a soft damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid; avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners, which will haze the surface. Not suitable for the dishwasher or the oven. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can yellow acrylic over a number of years.
