Coloured glass held in iron fittings, this pendant measures 15 centimetres across and 22 centimetres tall, which is small enough to hang in a row of two or three over an island or a breakfast bar without the ceiling starting to look crowded. Smoke grey reads almost neutral until it is lit; rust is warmer and browner and carries more of its colour through to the light it throws.
Because the glass is tinted rather than opaque, the shade glows as well as directing light downwards, so a pair of these does as much for the mood of a kitchen as for the worktop underneath. The fitting takes a single E27 lamp, which is not supplied. An LED is the sensible choice here, both for the heat and because the glass sits close to the lampholder.
The cord is adjustable to 150 centimetres, giving room to hang low over a table or high in a hallway. This is a hardwired fitting and should be installed by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated first. It is rated for dry indoor locations only and must not be fitted in bathroom zones 0, 1 or 2. Check the ceiling point is sound before hanging.
