Cordless Puck Wall Light

Seven and a half centimetres across and four and a half deep, this is a wall light that needs no wiring at all. It sticks or screws to the wall, charges over USB, and runs from a built-in battery, which makes it the obvious answer for the places a hardwired fitting cannot easily reach: inside a wardrobe, along a dark hallway in a rented flat, above a stair tread, under a shelf or beside a bunk bed.

Two control types are offered. Touch is the simpler of the two, pressing the face to switch and hold to dim, which suits a light within arm's reach. The remote version is better where the light is above head height or behind something, and lets a row of them be switched together. Either way brightness adjusts rather than being fixed, so the same light works as a reading light or as a low marker overnight.

White, black and wood effect are offered. The wood effect is the softest against a painted wall and reads as a small deliberate object rather than a utility fitting. The body is ABS with an aluminium face, which keeps the weight low enough for adhesive mounting. Charge using a UK USB power adapter. The built-in lithium cell means the light should go to a WEEE recycling point at the end of its life.
