Crystal Glass Lotus Bowl 28cm

A heavy glass bowl formed as a lotus, with the outer petals folded back and the inner ones cupped to hold the shape. It stands twenty-eight centimetres long, fourteen deep and twenty-two tall, so it has real presence on a table without blocking the view across it, and the thickness of the glass gives the petal edges a bright line wherever the light catches them.

Left empty it works as a sculpture, reading almost white against a dark wood sideboard and nearly invisible against a pale wall. Filled it becomes something else again: a few floating heads of hydrangea, a handful of pebbles, a single candle in a glass holder, or fruit on a dining table. The wide mouth and low centre of gravity mean it sits steadily wherever you put it.

The glass is clear throughout with no coating or paint, so it will not craze or discolour, and the underside is ground flat so it does not rock or scratch a polished surface. Wash it by hand in warm water with a little washing-up liquid and dry it with a soft cloth to keep the petal edges bright. It is a decorative piece rather than an everyday serving bowl.
