Datum Two-Tone LED Ceiling Light

The Datum is a straightforward drum with one good idea: the outer iron band and the inner acrylic diffuser are finished in different tones, so the fitting reads as two stacked discs rather than one solid lump on the ceiling. At 13cm deep it has more presence than an ultra-thin panel, which suits rooms with a normal ceiling height and a bit of furniture to balance it against.

The 30cm size is right for a bedroom, a study or a hallway; the 40cm suits a living room, a kitchen or a larger bedroom where it is the main source of light. Black gives the sharpest contrast against a white ceiling, grey is the quietest of the three, and white almost disappears. All three carry the same two-tone edge detail. Two of the 30cm fittings down a long hallway usually look better than one 40cm stranded in the middle of it.

Each size comes in fixed warm white or a three-colour version that steps between warm, neutral and cool light from the wall switch, which lets one fitting cover a room used for different things at different times of day. The acrylic diffuser spreads the integrated LED broadly rather than spotting it. Hardwired to a ceiling point, rated for dry indoor rooms, and supplied with the LED fitted.
