Dyed Wood Table Lamp 45cm

A table lamp with a solid wood base that has been dyed rather than painted, so the grain still shows through the colour. The aluminium shade above it is polished on the inside and matt on the outside, which keeps the reflected light soft while the outer surface stays quiet. A mechanical joint between the two lets you tip the shade towards a book or away towards the wall without the lamp losing its balance.

At 45 centimetres tall on a 15 centimetre base it is a proper bedside or console lamp rather than an accent piece, tall enough to read by when seated and narrow enough not to eat a nightstand. Five colourways are offered - green, pink, white, yellow and black - and they are strong colours rather than muted ones, so the lamp is best treated as the thing in the room that carries the accent rather than as a neutral.

A bulb is included and the light tone is chosen at the point of order: warm white for bedrooms and living rooms, natural white as a middle setting, cool white where the lamp is doing task work. The lamp ships with a two-pin European plug, so a UK plug adaptor is needed; use a good quality fused one. Keep the shade clear of fabric and curtains, and let the metal cool before adjusting the joint.
