Feather Shade Pendant Light 30cm

A pendant whose shade is built from layered goose feathers over a light iron frame. Each one is made by hand, so the outline is soft and slightly irregular rather than machine-even, and the whole thing moves very faintly in a draught. Lit from inside, the feathers glow rather than glare, and the fitting throws a diffuse, slightly textured light that no fabric drum quite reproduces.

The shade is 30cm across and 22cm deep, which is the right scale for a bedroom, a dressing area or a bay window rather than a main room ceiling. Two colourways are offered, grey and white; white reads lighter and shows the layering more clearly, grey is warmer and hides dust better. The cable drops one metre from the canopy and can be shortened at installation.

The fitting takes an E27 lamp, sold separately. Use LED lamps only and keep the wattage low - feathers sit close to the lampholder and must never be exposed to the heat of a halogen or incandescent bulb. It is hardwired and must be installed by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated at the consumer unit first. Dry indoor locations only, well clear of open flame, steam and damp. Dust with a cool hairdryer rather than a cloth.
