A shade built from feathers on a metal base, 40 centimetres tall with the shade measuring 20 centimetres across. Five colours are offered: grey and white for something quiet, lilac and pink for a bedroom, blue for a little more contrast. Light passing through the feathers comes out broken up and soft-edged, which is an effect no woven or paper shade quite manages.
It is a lamp bought for how it looks as much as for what it lights, and it works best where it can be seen in the round rather than pushed against a wall. A dressing table, a bedside table, a low shelf or a console in a hallway all suit it. The dimming lets it drop to a very low level, which is when the texture of the shade reads most clearly.
Feathers are combustible, so this one carries a rule that matters: keep it well away from candles, open flames, heaters and radiators, and never drape anything over the shade. Use only the supplied plug and cable. Dust the feathers with a cool hairdryer on its lowest setting or a soft brush rather than a damp cloth, which will mat them together and spoil the shape.
